Lesson 4: Few-Shot Examples

← Core Skills
← PreviousNext →

What you'll learn

Use 2–5 examples to show the desired output pattern, style, or quality so the AI matches it.

Why it matters

  • Examples communicate expectations better than long descriptions.
  • Style and tone are hard to specify in words; samples show them.
  • 3–5 examples usually give the best balance of guidance vs. token cost.

The rule

  • Include examples when format, style, or tone must match existing content.
  • Show variation (different scenarios) not just one perfect case.
  • Every example should meet your quality bar.

Bad vs better

Bad:

Write product descriptions in our brand voice.

Better:

Write product descriptions matching our brand voice. Here are 3 examples: [paste]. Notice: conversational tone, benefits over features, specific scenarios. Apply this style to: [list of products].

Copy/paste template

Examples of desired output:
Example 1: [paste]
Example 2: [paste]
Example 3: [paste]
[What to notice: tone, structure, level of detail.]
Now produce for: [your input].

Checklist

  • ✓2–5 examples when style or format matters.
  • ✓Examples show acceptable range, not just one ideal.
  • ✓You noted what to emulate (tone, structure, depth).
